Love, love, love this design. Like the Solo Satellite of Love trio and the Show Me, Show Me, what this picture doesn't show you is the window underneath the bezel frame that opens to show the pavilion (bottom) of the gem. The differences between these three sets are how the 'arms' rise up to the frame around the gem. It also may not show you that there are in fact three rings to this set, the main and two side bands, that were precisely created to make for a tight cluster. And, on the days it's better to leave the gem at home, wear the side bands flanking a wider band of a complimentary colour, such as green gold.
This example is in my favorite colour combination of pink and orange: a beautiful, naturally orange 2.22 ct spessartite garnet set in 18k rose gold. Especially beautiful on the skin of a redhead.
Numerous gems could be set in this style -- and have been -- including diamond. Imagine how fabulous an engagement ring that would be.
